We’re constantly receiving distracting information from our environment, and just because we’re driving doesn’t mean we just stop receiving input. It’s how we respond to it that saves lives.

Fleet managers need tools that allow them to help their drivers know exactly when they’re distracted and how they might overcome it. Nexxo Fleet’s camera solutions system does exactly this.

How do Nexxo Fleet cameras prevent driver distraction?

Answer: We prevent distraction in two ways. First, we provide a small screen device that is attached to the dash of the vehicle which beeps, voices, and shows a symbol of the specific distraction issue the driver is having. For example, if a driver is looking out the side window often enough to cause an issue with safety, the device will say: “Warning: Driver Distraction” and show a symbol that details this to the driver. Secondly, because the fleet manager receives that same alert, they can coach their drivers to be aware of their distraction issues so that they can improve.

Where are the cameras located on a vehicle?

Answer: There are 2 cameras. One is under the rear-view mirror and shows the road in front of the driver. The second camera faces the driver and is located on the driver-side pillar. This camera uses artificial intelligence to read the driver’s facial expressions and the direction of their eyes.

What kind of alert system does Nexxo Fleet technology use for managers?

Answer: Managers are able to receive alerts in real-time regarding the faults that their drivers commit. They receive notifications on our desktop platform, our phone app, through email, and text. This notification system is highly customizable.

When does an alert go off and why?

Answer: Our customers can decide which issues the system should alert them to. For example, if a vehicle in the fleet approaches another vehicle at high speed and the AI front-facing camera reads it as a possible crash event, that information will be reported in real-time to both the manager (should they choose to be notified of this type of event) and to the driver in order to attempt to prevent the accident. The fleet manager can choose to receive notifications from a host of other events that could identify driver distraction: the driver not wearing a seatbelt, smoking, drowsiness, etc.

What kind of cameras does Nexxo Fleet use to assist with driver distraction and how does the system work to help drivers and fleet managers?

Answer: The cameras that Nexxo Fleet uses are front- and cab-facing cameras which utilize ADAS and DSM technology (A.I) in order to read facial expressions and driver behavior as well as the road surface and the vehicle surroundings. Our technicians program the parameters and distance metrics of dangerous events into the system to prevent accidents, collisions, and warn of pedestrians on the road ahead. It helps drivers avoid accidents by alerting them of a possible crash due to speed.

Fleet drivers are trained to avoid behaviors that account for manual, visual, cognitive, and auditory driver distractions, but cameras in cabs help determine fault when needed and offer opportunities for coaching and ensuring that transportation safety is improved over time.
