Fleets  that use telematics see their fuel costs decreased by 25% with a 30% reduction in downtime. That’s because data from telematic devices helps fleet managers understand exactly how much fuel is being wasted and when.

Out of route miles, idling in traffic, and miles drivers spend looking for parking spaces add up to wasted fuel that can be saved through clear knowledge of when these things are happening.

Driver behavior is another factor that can be understood and coached to reduce fuel cost. Telematics allows a fleet manager to observe speeding, percentage of time idling, rapid acceleration, and other actions in a vehicle that consume a lot of fuel.

Once fleet managers understand more about what’s happening in real time with their vehicles, they can take appropriate action to optimize the routes their drivers travel including rerouting them for traffic congestion and construction.  They can also be better prepared to coach drivers about how to drive for fuel economy.

What data does Nexxo Fleet provide that helps with fuel performance?

Nexxo Fleets improves fuel performance in three ways:

  1. The Nexxo Fleet system connects to the CAN Bus of the vehicle and collects data regarding fuel consumption.

  2. When using the Nexxo Fleet hardware (which installs to fuel pumping stations on site), fleet managers can control the dispatching and usage of fuel fleet-wide through the use of proximity technology (RFID). Only trucks with the RFID can connect to the hose’s receiver to get fuel. This allows managers to know which truck is receiving how much fuel and when.

  3. Clients who use fuel cards to give to drivers for refueling can instead connect to the Nexxo Fleet API in order to control the purchases made through the card. This allows fleet managers to cross the purchases with information obtained through the GPS which gives a more accurate reading of fuel usage. Drivers can more easily be coached to save on fuel if fleet managers have data to show them how to improve.

How does Nexxo Fleet report data to fleet managers?

Data is reported through the Nexxo Fleet application on ELDs, smartphones, tablets, or PCs using alerts, our internal B.I. tool, and reports on our easy-to-read dashboard that is simple to customize for exactly what notifications our clients need to receive.
